A guest artist credit and the words printed on your cover are two different parts of a release. Set the contributor roles in TuneCore first, then check the artwork against the finished release information.
Put featured artists in contributor fields
TuneCore says to add a featured artist as a contributor, rather than adding their name to the song title. It also says an artist cannot have both Primary and Featured roles on the same project. See the official contributor guidance before submitting your credits.
A fictional example
- Song title: Last Train Home
- Primary artist: Harbor Lights
- Featured contributor: Jules North
Enter Jules North in the featured contributor role, not by changing the song title to “Last Train Home feat. Jules North.” These invented names illustrate field separation; they are not a complete release submission or an approval guarantee. Songwriter and other applicable credits still need to be completed.
Check cover text separately
TuneCore’s artwork guidelines allow an image with no text, or artist-name and release-title text that matches the entered release information. Extra text outside those names and the title is not permitted.
That is not a reason to put every contributor onto the cover. Nor does the contributor article settle every possible multi-artist cover layout. If you want a guest name on the artwork and are unsure how it should match your particular release, confirm the wording with TuneCore before exporting.
Review the release and the actual file
- Check the final song or album title and each artist’s contributor role in the upload form.
- Compare any cover text with that information. A single should not show a different album title as its title.
- Review spelling and legibility at thumbnail size. This is a design check, separate from distributor approval.
- Reopen the exported image and inspect its dimensions, format and file size. Use our TuneCore export checklist for the file requirements.
- Keep the original artwork and confirm your rights to distribute it. Use the release upload checklist to review the other submission fields.
If you need a new visual direction
You can explore artwork in Covermatic Studio, then review the resulting file and add or check the final typography. Generating an image does not correct contributor metadata, confirm image rights or guarantee distributor acceptance.
